England’s World Cup hero Ben Stokes to retire from ODI cricket

England all-rounder Ben Stokes announces his sudden retirement from international one-day cricket, shocking the entire cricket world. His recent Twitter statement reads, “I will play my last game for England in ODI cricket on Tuesday in Durham. I have decided to retire from this format.”

Stokes precisely stated his thoughts behind the decision. The tweet reads “This has been an incredibly tough decision to make. I have loved every minute of playing with my mates for England.

Three formats are just unsustainable for me now. Not only do I feel that my body is letting me down because of the schedule and what is expected of us, but I also feel that I am taking the place of another player who can give Jos and the rest of the team their all. It’s time for someone else to progress as a cricketer and make incredible memories like I have over the past 11 years.”

Ben Stokes made his ODI debut in Dublin against Ireland in 2011. He has represented England 101 times in ODI cricket. The 31-year-old has scored 2,919 runs, including three centuries, and taken 74 wickets in 104 ODIs. His glorious career highlights his match-winning 84 that brought the 2019 World Cup home beating New Zealand.

Stokes will be seen playing for the last time in ODI format tomorrow (Tuesday). The series opener against South Africa will be streamed live from Durham at 6:00 PM BST.

However, the test captain will continue leading his team in test matches as well as appear in t20 international matches wearing his beloved national kit
