India broadcast rights for Cricket Australia have been sold to Disney Star

On Sunday, the leaders of Australian cricket said they had reached a deal with Disney Star to sell them broadcasting rights in India. The deal is said to last seven years and be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Some Australian media outlets have said that the contract is worth even more than that, but it is thought that Walt Disney’s media company paid more than AU$300 million (US$208 million) for the rights.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Big Bash League and the Women’s Big Bash League will play host to both men’s and women’s international matches. The season 2023–2024 will see the implementation of this rule.

The CEO of Cricket Australia (CA), Nick Hockley, said in a statement, “Disney Star is synonymous with the game in India, and we’re excited to work with them to show off the great cricket played in Australia every summer.” “We can’t wait to work with them to show off the great cricket that is played in Australia every summer.”

CA didn’t say anything about how much the deal would cost.

“The size of this association is a sign of the long-standing rivalry and respect between Australian and Indian teams,” “the excitement and popularity of WBBL and BBL,” and “the high regard that Australian cricket has in India and around the world,”

According to the press release, Disney Star will get the rights to show Australian cricket “throughout India and other parts of Asia.”

Hockley said that there was “considerable interest” in the rights, which are currently owned by Sony under a contract that will end when this season does.
