Depay On The Verge To Switch From Barca To Juventus

Memphis Depay is reportedly just one step away from leaving Barcelona as the attacker has secured an agreement to sign off his Barcelona contract. With this, his switch to Juventus as a free agent gets pace.

An official announcement of the deal might arrive this coming week, following Juventus’s face-off against Sassuolo in Serie A on Monday night.

Barcelona is facing a financial crisis. The club is yet to clear salary space to register Jules Kounde while also targeting more new signings. It caused the club to lose some of its key players including Depay. Since Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha arrived, Depay has been finding the attacking position of Barca more competitive. He doubts it may cause him to be irregular on the field and thus wants to leave the club soon.

At the same time, Xavi Hernandez made it clear on Saturday that he’s not in his plans for Barcelona this season. He didn’t appear in the match against Rayo Vallecano where Barca tied without scoring a goal.

Meanwhile, Bianconeri has targeted the Dutchman from the beginning of this transfer window. Depay’s lawyers are arguing that he should be allowed to leave for free as he joined for free last summer.

Notably, the 28-year-old joined Barcelona only last summer as a free agent, terminating his contract with Lyon. However, he is still a widely appreciated player in Europe. He has 158 goals alongside 96 assists in his kit. Last season, he was announced Barcelona’s top scorer with 13 goals.
