Iga Swiatek Beats Jessica Pegula To Reach First US Open Semi-Final

World No. Iga Swiatek has beat Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals.

The Polish tennis star secured a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over American Jessica Pegula at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday night to reach her first semifinal in the US Open. The exciting match was full of thrills, with a combined 13 breaks of serve, 10 in the second set alone. This was Swiatek’s eighth consecutive victory against a top-10 ranked opponent, that all in straight sets. She is on a 37-match win streak in three different surfaces which boosted her confidence and turned her into a dominant force in women’s tennis.

The other semifinal will display a fight between Ons Jabeur and Caroline Garcia. Among the four players remaining in the bracket, only Swiatek has a major championship in her kitty. The 21-year-old won the French Open in 2020. However, she has a little discomfort playing against big hitters. She lost only to prominent players like Danielle Collins (in the Australian Open semifinals) and Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai.

Iga Swiatek is set to face No. 6 seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the last four’s round on Thursday. Swiatek leads Sabalenka 3-1 in head-to-head.
