Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose withdraw from BMW PGA Championship

LIV Golf player and European stalwart Sergio Garcia as well as Justin Rose won’t appear in the BMW PGA Championship this weekend. They both withdrew from the DP World Tour’s flagship event on Saturday morning. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the ongoing tournament has been shortened to 54 holes.

Rose mentioned a back injury as the reason for his withdrawal. He had shot 73 in the first round. Garcia, on the other hand, showed no cause for the decision. He shot 4-over 76 after the opening round. He was seen in Austin, Texas, ahead of the Longhorns contest against Alabama, according to a report by Golf Channel.

The Spaniard did the same thing at The Open Championship at St. Andrews this summer after he was reported to join LIV Golf. He even threw a buzz about resigning from the DP World Tour. However, he later changed his mind and continued the membership. He has no further plan of appearances on the DP World Tour 2022 schedule.

He will be seen playing at the fifth LIV Golf event at Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago next week. He turned professional in 1999 but is yet to claim his maiden title of the event. Notably, Kristoffer Broberg, Ryan Fox, and Nino Bertasio are other players who have withdrawn from the BMW PGA tournament.
