Indonesia Open is a popular annual badminton tournament based in Jakarta. First established in 1982, the competition is currently a part of BWF World Tour’s Super 1000 series of events.
The upcoming edition of the event is titled “Kapal Api Group Indonesia Open 2023”. It is scheduled to start this Thursday, July 13, and run for 6 days straight. The event will organize both singles and doubles competitions for both the men’s and women’s divisions.
The competition will be held at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno sporting arena in Jakarta. Organizers of the event have announced a $1.25 million prize pool for the competitions.
Danish professional, Viktor Axelsen is the leading seed of the event. The reigning world and Olympic men’s singles champion is also the currently 1st ranked player in men’s singles. He started the 2023 season with a win at Malaysia Open.
Akane Yamaguchi is the female’s lead seed at the upcoming Indonesian competition. The young Japanese professional is currently the two-time world champion and ranked leader of women’s singles worldwide.
