Preview:

When it comes to the 105th edition of the legendary Giro D Italia 2022, Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz and Britain’s Simon Yates are favorites as the riders prepare themselves. The season’s very first Grand Tour will take place this weekend.

The 2022 Giro d’Italia event will occur over 21 stages and include six sprints, six significant climbs, and two individual time trials. The itinerary is likely the most grueling of the whole season, with one stage comprising a calf-shredding climb up Mount Etna.

Injury incurred in a training collision earlier this year has unfortunately resulted in Egan Bernal’s inability to defend his championship this season. Along with Carapaz and Yates, Tom Dumoulin, the 2017 winner, is the most likely rider to benefit from the Colombian’s absence from the Tour de France.

This year’s Giro D Italia 2022 edition begins in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, then travels to the Italian mainland through the island of Sicily before concluding with a time trial in the city of Verona, where the race began.

Giro D Italia 2022 Schedule:

The race will begin on Friday, 6 May 2022, and continue until Sunday, 29 May 2022. There will be three rest days, 29 May, Avola; 16 May in Pescara; and 23 May in Salò.
