One of the biggest cycling events of the year, Vuelta a Espana, is just around the corner with the multi-stage bicycle race starting this Friday in Utrecht, Netherlands. Let us find out all the details regarding the Vuelta a Espana 2022.

Nicknamed La Vuelta, this race is a part of the UCI World Tour and was established in 1935. It is considered among the most reputed races in the world because of its grand-tour status along with two other events, Tour de France and Giro d’Italia.  La Vuelta mainly takes place in Spain, although the race track does cover parts of other bordering countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, and Portugal.

2022 Vuelta a Espana marks the 77th edition of the prestigious event. Being the final grand tour of the year, the hype for this year’s Tour of Spain is massive in the bicycle racing world. This 21-stage and the 3-week-long race will feature the best cyclists in the world.

The defending champion, Richard Carapaz, who has won the last three La Vuelta, is back this year to lift the trophy in Madrid for the fourth time in a row. Other than Carapay, some of the names to look out for are; Alejandro Valverde, Remco Evenepoel, and Simon Yates.

Where will the event be held?

The Vuelta a Espana 2022 is generally held in Spain and its neighboring countries. This year is no different as the race will start in Utrecht, Netherlands, and finish in Madrid, the capital of Spain. 

The participating cyclists will travel 3,280.5 km in the 21-days of racing across the tracks of three countries, Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
