Chelsea FC; Transfer business so far

Chelsea was a mid-table team before the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovic bought the London-based club. He might have issues regarding his business and politics but as an owner, he was one of the best around.

He injected a lot of money into the club, bought world-famous stars at Stamford bridge and hired successful and visionary coaches. The result was there as they won 2 UCL, 6 premier league trophies and plenty of other accolades.

However, the owner got sanctions from the British government and was forced to sell the club to the American businessman Todd Bohely and his consortium. It’s the first transfer window under the new owner and they promised to improve the club. So far, Chelsea did a lot of business. Let’s take a look.

Incomings:

Raheem Sterling:

The English winger is the first player to come to Stamford Bridge in the Todd Bohely era. He left Manchester City after a long period. It costs the club €56.20m.

Marc Cucurella:

The Spanish left-back showed his ability during his one-year stint in Brighton and hove Albion. Chelsea spent €65m to secure his service and made him the costliest wing-back.

Kalidou Koulibaly:

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left the club for free and Chelsea became lighter in the central defensive position. Therefore, they forked out €38m for the experienced defender.

Carney Chukwuemeke:

Bohely intends to make a team for the future and the signing of brilliant midfielder Chukwuemeke from Aston Villa proves that the owner kept his promise. The player is just 18 years old and already has premier league experience. So, €18m for the player is surely a bargain deal for the club.

Cesare Casadei:

Another young and prospective signing is Cesare. He’s considered one of the brightest midfielders and Chelsea bought him from Serie A giants Inter Milan for a fee of €15m.

Gabriel Slonina:

American goalkeeper Slonina had a great time at the MLS side Chicago and he was bought to give competition to Mendy for the goalkeeping position. It costs €9m.

Conor Gallagher and Armando Borja join the main team from the club’s U-21 side after showing their ability.

Departures:

Timo Werner:

The German forward came to the club with high hope, however, it faded away with time as the explosive striker failed to show his potential in England. He joined his former club, RB Leipzig for €20m.

Romelu Lukaku:

Lukaku was a devastating player while at Inter Milan and Chelsea spent nearly €100m for the Belgian striker nonetheless he failed to cope with Tuchel’s system and is now loaned back to Inter again.

Malang Sarr:

The defender is loaned to Monaco for a year.

Antonio Rudiger:

The German defender was a pillar of the team and helped the club a lot to win the UCL nevertheless was reluctant to sign an extension. Therefore, he joined Real Madrid for free.

Andreas Christensen:

Almost the same story for Christensen who also left the club after seeing out the contract. He joined Barcelona for free.

Rumors:

Chelsea isn’t done yet with the business and there are still possibilities of many incomings and outgoings. Hudson-Odoi may leave the club before the end of the window. On the other hand, the club is heavily linked with Barcelona’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Frenkie De Jong is also linked previously though the chances are thin now. Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana is another player who the club desperately wants to sign. Ivan Toney from Everton and Adam Webster from Brighton are also on their wishlist if they failed to sign Fofana. Alvaro Morata is another surprising name if the cub’s pursuit to buy Aubameyang gets crashed.

The intention is clear from the club’s hierarchy, make the team a title contender again. After the first 3 matches, it’s evident that they need more signings. We’re looking forward to seeing a world-class Chelsea team once again.
