The Barracuda Championship is going to take place from 14th July – 17th July 2022 at Tahoe Mountain Club (Old Greenwood), Truckee, California. The Barracuda Championship is unique because it uses a scoring system called Modified Stableford. This is just one more thing that makes it stand out from the other events on the schedule. This makes the tournament fun to watch because the golfers are more likely to take risks to get as many points as possible for their eagles. In this article, you will know about the course, players, and tee times as well as preview and prediction of the Barracuda Championship 2022.
Preview & History
The Barracuda Championship is a professional golf tournament put on by the PGA Tour in the state of California. This alternative contest started in 1999 and takes place every August. The tournament used to be held at the Montreux Golf and Country Club near Reno, Nevada. In 2020, it will move to the Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood course. This course is in the California town of Truckee, which is close by.
This week, fifty golfers from the DP World Tour are taking part in the second event co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour as part of the new strategic alliance. These fifty golfers are in for a truly classic PGA Tour experience.
Up until 2010, the tournament was held in August, during the same week as the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. In its first three years, it had 156 players, which was a lot more than the World Golf Championship, which had only about 40 players. In 2002, there were only 132 golfers in the Reno-Tahoe Open. This was because the World Golf Championships had expanded to include about 80 more golfers.
When the FedEx Cup started in 2007, both the tournament and the WGC event were moved up to earlier in the month of August. In 2010, the Reno–Tahoe Open was moved up to a few weeks before the Open Championship. It was held in the middle of July, a few weeks before the Open Championship. This happened for only one year before it happened again in early August 2011, right next to the WGC-Bridgestone event.

Barracuda Championship 2022 Course
As this tournament goes around again, it will be held on the Old Greenwood Course at Tahoe Mountain Club. This will be the third time someone has hosted.
It is a good golf course with deep bunkers along the greens and greens with a lot of undulations that make it a good test for the best players. But it is clear that the course is hard for the average golfer.
Since the tournament moved to this location in 2018, the scoring has reflected the fact that it is hard to build a course at 6,000 feet above sea level that can stand up to the distances that modern Tour pros can get.
If we look at the scorecard, we can see that the course has a par of 71 and is 7,480 yards long. That’s a long time at sea level, but as I just said, we’re not at sea level, so it feels like less time than the average TOUR stop. We’re not at sea level, so that’s why.
There are 95 bunkers all over the course, and on six of the holes, water comes into play. Since Jack Nicklaus made this course, you should usually try to hit the ball high and to the left or right. The bentgrass and poa annua turf on the greens make them smaller than most greens on a TOUR course. Because the format encourages aggressive play, which is fun to watch, you should make it a habit to keep watching each night after The Open coverage has ended.

Barracuda Championship 2022 Scoring System
The Barracuda Championship is the only stroke-play tournament on the PGA Tour that uses the Modified Stableford scoring system. The Modified Stableford scoring system is a combination of the stroke play and medal play scoring systems. Players get points based on how their scores compare to the par value at each hole. Here is an explanation of how the point system for the Barracuda Championship works.
- Albatross: 8 points
- Eagle: 5 points
- Birdie: 2 points
- Par: 0 points
- Bogey: -1 points
- Double bogey or worse: -3 points
Barracuda Championship 2022 Format
- The Barracuda Championship is spread out over 72 holes. In the first two rounds, the field is split into waves that start in the morning and go through the afternoon. Each day, players compete in groups of three. In each of the first two rounds, the same three-person teams compete against each other.
- After 36 holes, only the top 65 players and those tied for those spots based on their total number of Stableford points are left in the tournament.
- The third and fourth rounds’ pairings and tee timings are dependent on each player’s first-two-round points. The players with the fewest points go first, and the order continues until the top two scorers face off.
- The golfer with the most points after 72 holes wins.
- If there’s a tie after 72 holes, the PGA Tour playoff rules apply. Any player that made the tournament can play in any of the 18 playoff holes. Hole after hole, competitors compete to see who has the lowest score.
- The champion can skip two PGA Tour seasons. Winners automatically enter subsequent tournaments. Winner gets 300 FedEx Cup points.
