FedEx St. Jude Championship 2022 Purse: Payout and Prize Money Breakdown

The maiden FedEx cup playoff event of the 2022 season started with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Here, you will find the complete breakdown of the purse, payout, and prize money of the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2022.

The FedEx St. Jude Championship 2022 is currently underway, having started on the 11tth of August. The event draws near its conclusion as it is scheduled to finish on the 14th of August.

Previously part of the regular PGA Tour, the St. Jude Championship was later turned into a FedEx cup event in 2007. Following its establishment under the name of Westchester Classic in 1967, the tournament has rebranded itself multiple times due to sponsorship changes. The previous titles for the tournament include The Northern Trust, The Barclays, and the Buick Classic.

As FedEx Cup comprises the top 125 players from the FedEx Cup standings, the field is extremely strong, brimming with all the top players. Other than Daniel Berger, Lanto Griffin, and Tommy Fleetwood, who have decided to withdraw, all the qualified golfers will tee it up at the course of TPC Southwind.

FedEx cup events appeal to all the top players as it determines the ultimate champion following a hectic year-long season. Some of the big names looking for the crown in Memphis are Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith, Tony Finau, etc.

However, in the first two days of play, this is looking like a tournament for the underdogs as the top players like McIlroy and Scheffler have missed the cut, whereas J. J. Spaun and Sepp Straka are at the top of the leaderboard.

FedEx St. Jude Championship 2022: Purse and Payout

The PGA has announced that the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship purse will be $15 million. In addition, the winner will receive $2.7 million, which is the standard 18% of the total purse.

In the previous edition of the St. Jude Championship, the purse was $9.5 million, while the winner, Tony Finau, received $1.71 million. We can clearly notice from the numbers that the prize fund has gone up by a large degree. The overall purse and the champion prize money have both increased by over 50%.

There are other advantages to winning a FedEx cup event besides the lucrative payout. A two-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour will be awarded to the winner, along with an entry in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Winning a FedEx cup event like the St. Jude Championship 2022 is hugely rewarding as the winner receives 2,000 FedEx Cup points, four times more than a regular season event.

Besides the winner, the runner-up and the second runner-up also acquire a handsome prize money of $1.63 million and $1.03 million, respectively, while the 65th placed player gets $32,220.
