Open de Espana 2022: Player Field, Picks, Odds, and Prediction

The 2022 DP World Tour heads to the Iberian Peninsula as the players get ready to take part in the Open de Espana 2022 at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid on October 6. Let us check out the player field, expert picks, odds, and predictions.

Previously known as the Spanish Open, this tournament is the national open golf championship of Spain. Established in 1912, this 110-year-old tournament is now a part of the European Tour. As the national open of Spain, this event is fairly reputed in the golf world. Similar to previous years, numerous top golfers from Spain are getting ready for the event as they set foot in Madrid.

The defending champion is Rafa Cabrera-Bello who won the Acciona Open last year defeating Adri Arnaus in a playoff. The Spaniard returns to Madrid to play in the 2022 edition as he tees up to retain his champion crown.

Other than Bello, many are in contention to win the event. Some of the big names to tee off at the Campo Villa for the next four days are Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Min Woo Lee, etc.

Open de Espana 2022 Player Field: Expert Picks

The player field of Acciona Open de España is of 144 players. The sole representatives of the top 50 are Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood. Let’s have look at the top players that the experts have picked as the favorites of the tournament.

  1. Jon Rahm
  2. Tommy Fleetwood
  3. Adri Arnaus
  4. Eddie Pepperell
  5. Min Woo Lee
  6. Grant Forrest
  7. Yannik Paul
  8. Rafael Cabrera-Bello
  9. Mikko Korhonen
  10. Thriston Lawrence

Jon Rahm is the absolute favorite of the tournament. The Spaniard is head and shoulders above everyone else in the rankings. Having previously won this tournament twice back in 2018 and 2019,  Rahm is looking to create history by winning his 3rd title here.

Tommy Fleetwood is another top pick of the experts. The Briton is currently 9th in the standings of the DP world tour and is determined to better his placement with a solid performance here in Madrid. The experts and fans alike are also giving him quite a reasonable chance to clinch the triumph.

Adri Arnaus and Thriston Lawrence are two names that are getting mentioned repeatedly in all of the expert predictions. Both golfers have scored at least one PGA wins this season and are desperate to win again. Arnaus came extremely close to winning the 2021 Acciona Open before coming short in the playoffs.

Amidst all these big names, we should not forget about the defending champion,  Rafa Cabrera-Bello. Bello is extremely fond of playing on his home soil and his performance proves that statement true. The 38-year-old won the last edition and finished as runner-up in the edition before that. It will not be much of a shock if the veteran golfer shines up yet again.

Open de Espana 2022 Odds:

  • Jon Rahm: +225
  • Tommy Fleetwood: +750
  • Adri Arnaus: 2000+
  • Eddie Pepperell: 2200+
  • Min Woo Lee: 2800+
  • Grant Forrest: 3300+
  • Rafa Cabrera Bello: 3300+
  • Thriston Lawrence: 4500+

Prediction:

Considering recent form and overall career success, Jon Rahm is undoubtedly the favorite to win the Acciona Open de España. Rahm is currently no. 6 in the world rankings. The fact that the next and only player on the field to be in the top 50 is ranked 28th, only helps us to predict how likely Rahm is to win this tournament. However, an upset is not entirely out of the books as the course of Club de Campo Villa is considered very scoring.

Open de Espana 2022 Prediction: Jon Rahm wins by 2 strokes.
