Open de Espana 2022 is about to conclude after 4 days of play. The tournament started on October 6 and is scheduled to finish on the 9th of October, 2022. A part of the European Tour since its inception, the tournament is the 37th event of its 2022 season.
Having been established in 1912, it has a rich history of 110 years. Throughout the years, the tournament went by different names depending on the sponsors. The current name, Acciona Open de Espana, was adopted in 2021.
Many of the world’s most prominent golfers are absent in this year’s edition of the Open de Espana. Only two golfers in the top 50 arrived in Madrid to compete in this tournament with over 100 years of history.
The 144-player field is headed by Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood and Adri Arnaus, and more. At the beginning of the final round, the tournament standings are led by the tournament favorite Jon Rahm. Min Woo Lee, world, no. 66, is a close second.
Open de Espana 2022 Purse and Payout:
The Open de Espana 2022 Purse was announced to be €1.75 million. The winner of the tournament will receive €291,660. Along with this massive sum, the champion will also be awarded 18 OWGR points and 460 DP World Tour points.
The winner’s share of the prize pool is the usual 16.67% per the European Tour’s prize money distribution chart. Whereas 1st and 2nd runner-ups will get a handsome amount of €194,440 and €109,550.
Compared to last year, the prize fund increased by $250,000, while the winner is set to get $41,660 more. In 2021, the total purse was €1,500,000 with the winner, Rafa Cabrera-Bello, getting €250,000.
Not all participnts are eligible for the prize money. Of the 144 golfers, only the top 65 who proceed to the weekend following the 36-holes will be rewarded with a share of the €1.75 million purses.
