Chandler hints at Dustin Poirier fight: “He is thirsty, very, very thirsty.”

Former Bellator Champion, Michael Chandler hinted at a potential fight against Dustin Poirier in an interview at the UFC London. “He is thirsty, very, very thirsty for a fight,” Chandler said.

The lightweight division in the UFC is still the most competitive and exciting even after the departure of former Lightweight Champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Charles Oliviera vs Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush vs Mateusz Gamrot are set for UFC 280 in October. With the UFC announcing 2 massive fights in the lightweight division, the other top contenders have now started to call out their desired opponents in public.

Michael “Iron” Chandler appeared in a press conference at the UFC Fight Night 208 and teased that his fight against “The Diamond” Poirier is in the making. Although initially unwilling to fight Poirier following their altercation at the UFC 276, Chandler now has seemed to change his mind. “As of right now, me and Poirier are the only guys that are not matched up inside the top five,” stated Chandler. “I think you’re going to hear some fight news coming pretty soon and it could be me and Dustin Poirier. We’ll see.”

However, the former Interim Lightweight Champion remarked that he has zero knowledge of such a fight. “The golden boy probably knows more than I do,” Poirier responded in a text.

The timelines match up pretty well as it’s been a while since both fighters’ last bout. Chandler is coming off a “KO of the Year” worthy finish against Tony Ferguson and Poirier’s last fight was for the lightweight title against Charles Oliviera where he got choked out losing the fight via submission. With both fighters loving to scrap, stylistically, it has the potential to be the fight of the year. MMA fans around the world are more than eager to watch this fight unfold.
