Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022: Schedule, How to Watch, Tickets, Format

The biggest stage of the sport of Volleyball is upon us as the Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022 starts on the 26th of August. Here you will find all that you need to know about the 20th edition of the event organized by FIVB.

Volleyball Men’s World Championship is an international volleyball tournament participated by the absolute best national teams in the world. Since its inception in 1949, the event has been taking place quadrennially.

The champion of the inaugural season was the Soviet Union. The predecessor state to Russia won six of the first ten world championships, which is a record to this day.  The defending champion is Poland as their national team won the 3rd championship title in the 2018 world championships edging out Brazil and the USA.

This year, following a rigorous process of qualification in 2021, all the leading nations except Russia have qualified for the Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022. Poland, being the defending champion automatically qualified for the event.

Among the rest, 10 countries including Japan, Brazil, Italy, France, and six others have qualified by placing top 2 in the regional qualifiers. The rest 13 spots are filled by the countries ranked top 13 (excluding the qualified teams) in the world. Ukraine was given the spot of Russia based on its world ranking, after the latter’s suspension from the tournament.

Playing on their home ground, Defending Champion Poland is the clear favorite of the tournament. However, Brazil, France, and the USA have fielded solid teams this year and are more than capable of winning the whole thing.
