Matt Araiza, a 22-year-old NFL rookie punter for Buffalo Bills has been accused of gang-raping a 17 y/o girl.
Araiza is not the only one accused to be involved in the incident. Two state football players from San Diego are also part of the lawsuit. The names of the lesser-known players are; Zavier Leonard and Nowlin Ewaliko. As per the reports of the Los Angeles Times, the 3 men assaulted the girl in a room after taking her out from a high school party outside of the campus.
However, Araiza has denied all the accusations. His lawyer, Kerry Armstrong stated that the accusations are all slanders and are brought forth only to ruin his client, Mr. Araiza’s career. “It’s a shakedown because he’s now with the Buffalo Bills,” Armstrong said in an interview with the Times. “There is no doubt in my mind that Matt Araiza ever raped that girl.”
The charge of rape was filed by attorney Dan Gilleon, who is hellbent on bringing justice to his client, the minor. “This was a horrific crime, the kind of which happens all too often,” stated Gillen. “My client deserves justice even if the defendants are prized athletes.”
The team of Araiza, the Buffalo Bills, has already issued a statement regarding the situation. However, they chose not to delve deep into the matter for now, as the investigation is currently ongoing. “Due to the serious nature of the complaint, we conducted a thorough examination of this matter,” said Bills spokesperson. “As this is an ongoing civil case legal, we will have no other comment at this point.”
Called the “Punt God” for his exceptionally powerful kicking, Matt Araiza was one of the prospects in this season of NFL. Considering the severity of the accusations in the lawsuit, his career is now in jeopardy. The outcome of the lawsuit will determine what the future holds for the Buffalo Bills punter.
