ATP Cincinnati Masters 2022: Schedule, How to Watch, Seeds, and Prize Money

The final masters 1000 tournament before the 2022 US Open is about to begin as the ATP tour heads to Cincinnati. This will serve you as an essential guide to all the actions of the ATP Cincinnati Masters 2022.

Cincinnati Masters, also known as the Western and Southern Open, is an ATP 1000 tournament part of the annual US Open series. The tournament is played on the outdoor hard courts at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

The year 2022 marks the 121st edition of the ATP Cincinnati Masters. Established in 1899, this is regarded as one of the most reputed ATP tournaments.  Because of the rich history along with the ATP points and the lucrative prize money that it offers, Cincinnati Masters have always appealed to the top tennis players of the world.

This year is no different as eight of the top ten players of the ATP ranking have arrived in Cincinnati in hopes to win the prestigious tournament. The only top players to be absent are 2-time Cincinnati Champion, Novak Djokovic, and the defending champion, Alexander Zverev.

While Djokovic was unable to participate due to his dispute with the US policy regarding Covid Vaccination, Zverev had to withdraw from the tournament because of his injury. Record 7-time Cincinnati Masters winner, Roger Federer, has also pulled out of the tournament for the third year in a row.

Defending Champion: Alexander Zverev

The 1st seed of the tournament is world number 1, Daniil Medvedev. 2022 has been an eventful year for Daniil Medvedev even though he failed to win a big event this year. The only title the Russian won this year was when he beat Cameron Norrie in the finals of the Los Cabos Open.

Medvedev was consistent throughout the year as he reached 3 finals in 2022 including the Australian Open, where he lost against Rafael Nadal following a grueling five sets match. Thanks to his consistency, the 26-year-old became the first person outside of the Big 4 to attain the no. 1 spot in the ATP rankings in the last 18 years.

Rafael Nadal is making his 2022 North-America hard court season debut with the Cincinnati Masters. The 22-time grand slam champion is currently ranked no. 3 in the world. Nadal has had a tremendous year so far, winning two grand-slam championships in Melbourne and Paris. The Spaniard returns to the US Open series with the 2022 Cincinnati Open as he hopes to make it three, winning the US Open Championship at the end of this month.

Seed no. 3 of the ATP Cincinnati Masters 2022 is Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz, currently ranked fourth in the world, has also had an incredible year. In 2022, he won four titles, including two ATP masters 1000 crowns in Madrid and Miami. The 20-year-old Spaniard will be aiming for his 3rd masters 1000 title of the year as he arrives in Cincinnati, Ohio.
