As the year is drawing to its end, so is the ongoing Billie Jean King Cup 2022. The premier international women’s team tournament is scheduled to conclude with the finals beginning this November 8th.

The Billie Jean King Cup 2022 or BJK Cup is the largest premier women’s tennis tournament launched in 1963. The international team-based event is held annually under the authorization of ITF.
Every year, the event begins with three regional tournaments: Americas Zone, Asia/ Oceania Zone, and Europe/ Africa Zone. Upon completion of the regional qualifiers, 8 seeded and another 8 unseeded teams are selected for a play-off session. Finally, 12 of the 16 teams are currently selected to compete in the finals this year.
Last year, the Russian Tennis Federation won the championship. They did so by defeating Switzerland via a 2-0 score during the finals. Unfortunately, the Russian team was automatically disqualified due to their suspension status for the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. As such, they won’t be participating in the upcoming event. Whereas, Switzerland gets the automatic qualification thanks to their 2021 finalist status.
