Firenze Open 2022: Schedule, How to Watch, Seeds, and Prize Money

The inaugural edition of the Firenze Open is about to begin as the ATP tour heads to Florence, the city of art and culture. This will serve you as an essential guide to all the actions from the 2022 Firenze Open.

Officially known as the UniCredit Firenze Open 2022, it is an ATP 250 tournament played at the indoor hard courts of the Palazzo Wanny. It is one of the six events that earned a license for the ATP 250 series following the cancellation of the tournaments scheduled to take place in China due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although the event is making its debut this season as a part of the ATP 250 series, its first launch can be traced back to 1973. Going by ATP Florence, it was at first a part of the Grand Prix Circuit (1974-1989) and then the ATP tour till 1994. It has been defunct since then.

Firenze Open is returning to the tour with a solid field. All the top-seeded players are in the top 50 of the ATP rankings. The biggest names to have arrived in Florence are Félix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini, and Lorenzo Musetti.

Defending Champion: N/A

The 1st seed of the tournament is world number 1, Félix Auger-Aliassime. 2022 has been a decent year for him even though he dropped out of the top 10 this season. Felix was relatively consistent throughout the year as he won his maiden ATP singles title in Rotterdam and reached another grand final in Marseille. He is currently ranked 13th in the world.

Matteo Berrettini is the 2nd seed of the tournament. Currently ranked at 16th in the ATP rankings, Berrettini started the season very strong as he reached the semi-finals in the Australian Open. He reached his career-high world no. 6 after the first grand slam of the year. However, a string of poor results, coupled with an injury he suffered, caused him to drop out of top 10. He made a strong comeback later in the season as he won two titles in a row in London and Stuttgart.

Seed no. 3 of the Firenze Open 2022 is the world no. 27 Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti is a young talent from Italy with huge potential. Having already won one title this year in Hamburg, the Italian looks to win his 2nd ATP title here in Florence.
