Croatia Open: Hamburg Champion Musetti beats Bedene, secures round of 16

Lorenzo Musetti, the fresh Hamburg Open champion, continues his top form at the Croatia Open. He beat Aljaz Bedene on Tuesday (26th July) evening at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag. With this win, the Italian secured his place in the second round, the round of 16, where he will face Marco Cecchinato.

Musetti showcased his versatile skills covering the entire court in the first set. Bedene made a smart comeback in the following set.

Musetti said in a post-match interview that he learned a lot from his first ATP tour title-winning experience last week. He further confessed that his opponent, Aljaz Bedene had been playing really well in the second and third set, snatching the match away from him and it was a tough challenge to secure victory. However, he earned a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win against the Slovakians.

The eighth seed his next opponent is his fellow Italian mate Marco Cecchinato. He had already confirmed his entrance to the round of 16 with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 win against Mili Poljicak on Monday. Musetti, not taking stress from the face-off, considers it a friendly fun battle. The Italian duo even teamed up for the doubles event in Marrakech earlier this season.

Notably, Lorenzo Musetti was crowned his first ATP Tour title beating Carlos Alcaraz in the Hamburg European Open final on Sunday.
