Merida Open is a brand new Mexican professional women’s tennis tournament. Alternatively known as “Merida Open Akron”, the event will be a part of WTA Tour’s 250 series. Inaugural edition of the tennis competition will be held at the outdoor hard courts of Yucatan Country Club in Mexico.
Polish professional Magda Linette is the leading seed at Merida Open 2023. This month, she reached her career highest ranking of 21st at WTA singles leaderboard. She earned her career second doubles title at the WTA Tour 2022. Linette reached the semifinals of a grand slam for the first time in Australian Open 2023
Sloane Stephens is the 2nd seed of the Mexican event. The American female tennis player is ranked 39th in ATP singles. She was a semifinalist at the recent Australian Open event. Last year at Abierto Zapopan, Stephens won her career 7th singles title. It was her first WTA title since 2018.
The 3rd seed at upcoming WTA 250 event is Zhu Lin. Lin is a Chinese professional and currently ranked 41st in WTA singles worldwide. She had a very successful run so far. At the Auckland Open, Lin reached the quarterfinals defeating Venus Williams. She also won her career first singles title at the Thailand Open 2023.
