The event was previously known as BCR Open Romania Ladies. This year, the seventh edition of the event will be held in Bucharest, Romania from September 12–18. It is the first WTA tournament held in Bucharest in the past three years.

Defending Champion: María-Teresa Torró-Flor
Former Spanish professional tennis player María-Teresa Torró-Flor won the tournament in 2012 while it was named BCR Open Romania Ladies. The event returns this year after a long hiatus. She defeated her fellow Spanish opponent Garbiñe Muguruza 6–3, 4–6, 6–4 in the finals.
María has won one singles title and three doubles titles on the WTA Tour. She also owns 18 singles and five doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. She achieved her career-high rank of No. 47 on 5 May 2014.
