DeChambeau Set to Drop Out of Top 50 in OWGR

Bryson DeChambeau, a one-time major winner, has dropped out of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking Points.

DeChambeau is one of the most prominent players of the current generation. The 28-year-old has had an illustrious career in the PGA tour with 10 wins, one of them being a major, the 2022 US Open. However, DeChambeau became one of the forerunners to defect to the LIV Golf tour earlier this year.

LIV is a professional golf tour that is holding its inaugural season in 2022. Due to its massive prize pool, the Saudi-backed tour is joined by many prominent players such as Cameron Smith, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau himself.

LIV has successfully organized 7 official events till now. However, the tour is yet to get recognized by the OWGR, a non-profit organization responsible for the rankings of golf players around the world. As a result, many LIV golfers are losing their points. DeChambeau, former world no. 4, has suffered as well as he is now out of the top 50.

LIV is trying to get recognition from OWGR. They have decided to partner with the MENA Tour to help make them eligible for ranking points. Also, DeChambeau and 49 others have signed a letter to OWGR Chairman Peter Dawson regarding the issue. The officials from OWGR, though, continue to delay the process providing no definite answer.

As PGA sanctioned every player who has defected to LIV, the players of the Greg Norman-led team cannot earn points playing in PGA events. Unless OWGR finally decides in favor of LIV, we might witness the players of the controversial tour keep on dropping down the rankings.
