Last week, LIV Golf, an upstart golf tour supported by the funding of Saudi Arabia announced the inaugural player field for its third event of the 2022 tour. We will discuss the LIV Golf Bedminster Player Field in this article.
LIV Golf Bedminster, a forthcoming golf tournament, is part of the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational series. It is scheduled to be inaugurated on July 29, 2022, at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in Bedminster, New Jersey, US.
LIV Golf Bedminster Player Field is set to be 48 for the tournament. In the announcement on July 19, the organizers named 45 of the 48 players. The remaining three players were announced the very next day. These 48 players were later placed into 12 four-man teams.
Although the PGA has threatened to sanction players who wish to take part in this controversial event, the LIV Golf tour still managed to amass quite a solid player field. Some of the most prominent players participating in the event include major champions like Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson. Some other big names that require mentioning are Kevin Na, Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen, etc.
2-time major champion, Dustin Johnson, when asked to reflect on his joining such a controversial tournament, responded, “I don’t want to play for the rest of my life, this gives me an opportunity to do what I want to do.” Most of the other players also stated similar justifications, citing mainly monetary reasons as they all opted to play in this 54-hole tournament that has a purse of $20 million individually with an additional 5 million US dollars split among the top 3 teams every week.
