Early Career:

Lima was born in Brazil but he moved to the USA. Then he began his training with American Top Team Atlanta. Compiling a record of 5-0 in fights he began his MMA career. 

The Ultimate Fighter:

In 2007, Lima faced the Ultimate Fighter for the ISCF (International Sport Combat Federation) Pro East Coast Welterweight title.

American Fight League:

In 2008, Lima had his fight against Brent Weedman. In that fight, he had the first defense of his title. But he lost the fight. Then he never appeared in AFL promotion. 

World Extreme Cagefighting:

Lima joined WEC. His first fight was against Justin Haskins but he was forced to withdraw because of the Non-Citizenship of the U.S. His WEC debut never happened. Then he joined King of the Cage where ha faced the future Ultimate Fighter competitor.

Maximum Fighting Championship:

In 2010, Lima joined the Maximum Fighting Championship. His fight was against  Ryan Ford. Then he was given the MFC Welterweight title shot against Jesse Juarez at MFC 27. He won the match. Again Lima won the title against Terry Martin at MFC 29. 

Bellator Fighting Championships:

In 2011, Lima signed to Fight for Bellator Fighting Championships. In Bellator Season 5 Welterweight Tournament, he fought against Steve Carl which was opening round at Bellator 49. In that match, he won the fight with a unanimous decision.

Then in Bellator 53, he fought against Chris Lozano in the semifinals. Wining the semifinals, he fought Ben Saunders in the finals. He won that final fight too.

In 2012, Lima fought Ben Askren at Bellator 64. He lost the fight with a unanimous decision. He defeated Jacob Ortiz in the third round at Bellator 79.

In 2013, Lima faced a Russian MMA fighter Michail Tsarev at Bellator 86 in the Welterweight Tournament Season 8. He won that fight. At Bellator 90, Lima fought against Bryan Baker and won the fight. AT Bellator 100. Lima won the fight against Ben Saunders.

In 2014, Lima won the Bellator Welterweight Championship at the Bellator 117 against judo Olympian Rick Hawn.

In 2015, Lima got injured so he couldn’t participate at the Bellator 134 against Paul Daley. After 15 months of recovering from the injury, Lima fought Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 140. But he lost the fight.

In 2016, Lima faced Paul Daley at Bellator 158 and won the fight via unanimous decision. Then he faced Bellator Welterweight Champion Andrey Koreshkov again at Bellator 164. He won the fight in the third round.

In 2017, Lima fought Loren Larkin at Bellator NYC and won the fight via a unanimous decision. He had signed a six-fight, two-year contract with Bellator.

In 2018, Lima fought Rory MacDonald at Bellator 192 and lost the fight. He faced Andrey Koreshkov again at Bellator 206 and won the fight in Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix.

In 2019, Lima won the fight against Michael Page at Bellator 221 in the tournament semifinals. Then he challenged Rory MacDonald in the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix final at Bellator 232 and won the fight by unanimous decision. He became a three-time Bellator Welterweight Champion and the Welterweight Grand Prix winner. He received $1,000,000 prize.

In 2020, Lima was scheduled to face Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 242 but later it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But later he faced Mousasi at Bellator 250 and lost the fight via unanimous decision.

In 2021, Lima faced Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 260 in the Bellator Welterweight Champion and he lost his fight via unanimous decision.

In 2022, Lima was scheduled to face Jason Jackson on July 22, 2022.
