Henrik Stenson is a professional and expert golfer who plays for Sweden. This player is the 1st male Swedish major champion and also the 1st male nordic. He has won the Open Championship 2016 at Royal Troon. Early Career:

Gothenburg is Stenson’s birthplace. In 1988, he made his first golf lesson debut with Richard Bayliss at Gullbringa Gullbringa Golf & Country Club, in Kungälv, north of Gothenburg.

In 1991, he transferred with his parents to Bjarred outside Malmo in southern Sweden. He joined the Bareback Golf & Country Career

Amateur career:

In 1994, Stenson represented Sweden in an international championship at the European Boys’ Team Championship but his team lost in a tight final against England.

In 1996, he accomplished victory in the Italian Open Amateur Match-play Championship.

In 1998, he attended eight tournaments on the professional Telia Tour. 

In 1998, he earned a place in the Swedish team at the Eisenhower Trophy 1988 in Santiago, Chile. The Swedish team finished 6th and Stenson was one of the best Swedish players.

Professional Career:


In 1998, Stenson made his professional debut. In 2001, he participated in the European Tour and also won the Benson and Hedges International Open. It was his 1st victory on the European Tour. From 2005-2008, he completed the top 10 each year in the European Tours. 

In 2006, Stenson became one of the top 20 and in 2007, he became one of the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking.  

Being the 1st Swedish, Stenson won the World Golf Championship and also won the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

In 2006, Stenson made his debut in the Ryder Cup and confirmed that Europe won the cup.

In 2009, Stenson accomplished the victory in The Players Championship.


In 2013, Stenson won the Jerring Award. Stenson accomplished as the runner-up in the Open Championship 2013 and also in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. He won the Deutsche Bank Championship, The Tour Championship, and the FedEx Cup. This is not the last time he also won the DP World Tour Championship, the Race to Dubai, the FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour, and the European Tour’s Race to Dubai and was later named European Tour Golfer of the Year. 


In this season, Stenson accomplished the victories of the BMW International Open, the Open Championship 2016, the Ryder Cup 2016, and the Race to Dubai for a second time. He was named golfer of the year both in the European Tour and Swedish.


In 2017, Stenson won the Wyndham Championship. 


In 2019, Stenson accomplished the victory of the hero world challenge. 


In 2022, Stenson was notified that he will be the Captain of the European Ryder Cup 2023. But later he signed the LIV Golf. For this, the captaincy of the Ryder Cup had ended.
