The 2nd seed for the tournament is Paula Badosa. The 24-year-old is currently ranked 3rd in the world. Although the Spanish tennis star won only one title this year (Sydney Tennis Classic), her consistency has been impressive throughout the year. 

Aryna Sabalenka is the 3rd seed of the San Diego Open 2022. The 24-year-old Russian has had an uneventful year as she dropped out of the top 5. Sabalenka reached a career high, world no. 2 in 2021. However, her form dipped this year as she failed to win a single title. The highlight of her year was making the semi-finals in the Cincinnati Open.
