Australian Open 2023 prize money reaches all-time high

This year Australian tennis organizers have set a record time high prize pool, totaling over AUD$100 million during the summer of tennis.

The 2023 Australian Open is only weeks away. Officials have recently publicly announced the prize money related details of the upcoming event. And people are surprised by the prize pool amount this year.

Australian Open is featuring a prize pool of AUD$76.5 million which is around $51.6 million according to current USD transaction. This massive prize pool is not only a 2% increase from last year’s prize pool but also is an all-time high record amount. Compared to 2013’s prize money of $18.18 million, this represents an astonishing 321% increment.

Thanks to this gigantic increment in prize pool, rewards of individual placement have gone up by quite the size. The winner of singles in this year’s Australian Open will receive a $2.975 million prize money. While the runner-up will receive $1.625 million payment. Even players who drop during the first stage will earn around $26 thousand prize money from the pool.

For the summer season of tennis, Australian organizers are going all out this year. The total prize pool of this season have already exceeded AUD$100 million this year. The tournament director Craig Tiley said, “It is critical to the continued success of the Australian tennis summer that we provide strong and relevant playing opportunities and ensure that the best players in the world are compensated appropriately.”

Tiley added, “At the Australian Open, we’ve upped prize money for every round from qualifying, through to the finals, with the major increases in the early rounds. These substantial rewards help players invest in their own careers and in many cases, set themselves up for success throughout the year”

With the skyrocketed bump in prize money, professional player are getting serious about the warm up season of 2023 tennis calendar. And the first Grand Slam of the year, Australian Open starts this January 16th, 2023.
